Concertos. Monkillos

With their album In Monk We Trust (Freecode, 2009), Monkillos Monkillos write a letter of intent about their musical project.

This includes, in the first place, their unconditional adherence to the followers of the great musician Thelonius Monk, reinterpreted by this Galician trio in a mood of profound respect and admiration.

In the second place, it is an attempt to make a kind of music which can reach out to a wide audience, rising from their feet all the way up to their heads. Miguel Cabana (A Coruña, 1975), Marcelino Galán (A Coruña, 1972) and Xacobe Martínez Antelo (Santiago de Compostela, 1976) mix −following their own recipe− Monk’s music, the Afro-Cuban tradition and flamenco sounds. The technical skill of the three band members of this new generation of local jazzmen is particularly salient.
