Master-class. Master class

Master class with Franz Koglmann en el Conservatorio de Música

The best way to introduce the work of trumpeter and composer Franz Koglmann (Mödling, Austria, 1947) is to use his own words: “My music is a combination of different influences: first, the composer Franz Schubert; second, the Viennese school of Arnold Schoenberg and Anton von Webern; and the third influence is the sound of cool jazz, Chet Baker, Jimmy Giuffre and Lennie Tristano. These three things, maybe, give the Koglmann line”.

This artist comes to the Sixth Imaxina Sons Festival with the Monoblue Quartet and will present the Lo-lee-ta Project. Music on Nabokov on Saturday 3rd July at the City Council Concert Hall (Auditorio Municipal). And he will also give the second master class of the festival in this 2010 edition. For the Austrian musician jazz pervades all the other musical styles, but if it is seen as a dogma, it becomes senseless: that is the somehow categorical ideology of this trumpeter, who abandoned the realms of free jazz only to approach the principles of cool jazz, the trend which emerged in the 1950s on the West Coast of the US as a gateway for jazz. Those willing to attend Koglmann´s master class should be aware, as much as his concert audience should be, that beyond rejecting any kind of short-sighted fixed borderlines between musical genres, this Austrian artist approaches his music from the domains of poetry, visual arts, philosophy and popular culture.

His master class will not, therefore, be constrained to teachings on the musical instrument he masters (the trumpet), but also about improvisation form an integrated and comprehensive standpoint.
