Master class with Franco D´Andrea en el Conservatorio de Música
Since the late 1970s Franco D´Andrea (Merano, Italy, 1941) has been considered by the Italian specialized critics as the best national jazzman. This is no small merit in a country like Italy, where jazz constantly thrives thanks to a brilliant generation of artists grown up in the 1980s, who have now become a school of reference for world jazz.
To the huge ability of D´Andrea as a composer and piano interpreter we have to add his capacity to captivate both novel and expert audiences, who more often than not end up trapped in the allure of his music. He establishes direct communication with the public and adds a touch of the pedagogical skills he normally applies in his capacity as instructor in schools of music and seminars, as portrayed in Andreas Pichler’s 2006 documentary titled Jazz Pianist, which echoed the voices of a whole generation of Italian jazz masters around the leading figure of this extraordinary jazzman.
Pianist Franco D´Andrea visits this Sixth Imaxina Sons Festival in a quartet format with alto saxophone Andrea “Ayace” Ayassot, double bass Aldo Mella, and drummer Zeno de Rossi. The four quartet members, all leading figures of European jazz, will participate in this most attractive, and surely fruitful, master class to which you are all invited.
