The Gumbo Jass Band was established with the purpose of preserving and spreading the most authentic and genuine jazz style of the early 20th century in New Orleans. The band’s name is a plain declaration of principles: “Gumbo” is a characteristic stew or thick soup originating in New Orleans that is cooked using a type of seedpod similar to that of an African plant called okra. And “Jass” was the original and disrespectful name given to the jazz music of the earlier times.
Throughout the years, Gumbo Jass Band has been playing most successfully in numerous Catalonian cities and towns, as well as in the rest of Spain. Currently, it is a stable structure, largely respected in classical and traditional jazz circles.
This time the band will be formed by:
- Óscar Font: Trombone
- Cesc Miralta: Clarinet
- Enric Caballé: Banjo
- David Parras: Tuba
- David Forns: Washboard
