Imaxina Sons, Vigo’s International Jazz festival, is only three weeks ahead. The programme of concerts is now enriched by numerous activities, including Imaxina na Rúa (Imagine on the Streets), Jazz na Noite (Jazz in the Night), the street marching bands, round table discussions and two master classes given by key figures of jazz and avant-garde music: guitarist Fred Frith and trombonist Nils Wolgram. The festival, due June 25th to July 5th and sponsored by the Department of Culture and Social Affairs of the municipality of Vigo, is now rounded up with these shows, events and meetings. However, as early as June 6th the engines will start to warm up featuring the enthusiastic musicians of the A Tempo orchestra from Pontevedra (Galicia). They will take a musical stroll all around the squares and streets of Vigo. The Imaxina Sons landscape will spread all over the city.

The aim of Imaxina na Rúa is precisely to take the music to a broad public and open space with the involvement of bands featuring principally young emerging artists. A Tempo, conducted by Miguel Ángel Rodríguez, is made up of a group of amateur artists aged between 13 and 55. They will be playing jazz and blues standards in different parts of the city on June 6th. Then, on Saturday, June 20th it will be time for the members of the A Coruña Local School Ensemble, under the conduction of José A. Acuña, to put into practice what they have learned in their daily lessons about jazz and modern music.

Street performances will be abundant during the festival. Even on the day of the festival’s opening session (Thursday June 25th) Papa Swing will take their music to the streets and squares of Vigo with their roving performance in different hours of the day, and extending up to Sunday, June 28th. The following week, between July 2nd and 5th, it will be the Always Drinking Marching Band from Catalonia who will bring joy and fun to open spaces with their show La Calle es Nuestra (The Streets are Ours): a diaphanous, straightforward name for a band with a most peculiar makeup: ten musicians and a clown.
