17.06.10 Outdoor jazz shows on Saturday, 19th with the A tempo Orchestra

When we are pretty close to the opening session of Vigo’s Sixth Imaxina Sons International Jazz Festival, featuring Martial Solal on Wednesday 23rd June (Caixa Nova Cultural Centre, 21:30h.), the Imagine on the Streets (Imaxina na Rúa) cycle will continue on Saturday, 19th June with outdoor performances of schools of music. Twelve years ago, the A tempo Orchestra was set up in Pontevedra as a kind of pedagogical tool for both jazz students and fans in general aged between 13 and 55.

Conducted by María Luisa Sánchez González and Miguel Ángel Rodríguez this initiative provides an entry point to blues, jazz and rock standards with an orchestral format.

The band is linked to the A tempo School of Music and is enriched with the participation of secondary education students from the IES A Xunqueira 1 (Pontevedra), who can stand the chance of getting training in jazz music. These over thirty enthusiastic musicians are the heralds of the festival: they are charged with the responsibility of warming up the atmosphere for the upcoming festival by playing their tunes in different public spaces of Vigo, something in which they have indeed been so successful over the last few years.
