Introduction

Imaxina Sons, Vigo’s International Jazz Festival, is once again lying in wait of innovative proposals which may help expand the range and scope of the varied jazz languages. During the five years from the first issue of the festival in 2005, the festival has been characterized by the idea of giving voice to the most modernizing European, Spanish and Galician jazz trends. Sponsored by the local authorities of Vigo, the two basic underlying principles of the Imaxina Sons’ philosophy are, firstly, to provoke a feeling of amazement in the audience, and, secondly, to take risks as an imaginative and original festival: an approach which has turned out to be most successful as demonstrated by the fact that it has become a benchmark in the Iberian jazz scene. However, far from feeling complacent, the Imaxina Sons team continues to work in their effort to make the festival thrive with a new and fresh jazz language −one which is revolutionary and cannot, therefore, be silenced− for this 2009 issue.
